2008 Rugby Season
Gurkhas have qualified for Nationals
On April 19, the mens team (Gurkhas) beat #1 seed Back Bay RFC 31-28 to qualify
for national championships on May 17-18 in Austin Texas.
The SCRFU D2 Championship match vs Riverside RFC was played on April 26 in mid-summer
conditions, with Riverside coming
out on top 15-8. The Gurkhas were behind all match
and had the chance to tie right at full-time, but lost the ball forward when a try
under the posts was all but certain.
The same day, the boys U19s, U16s and U14s all won their games against Back Bay RFC. Meaning
that the U19s (one loss) and U16s (unbeaten) qualify for playoffs at San Luis Obispo on May 10. The
U16s have their final league match of the season against Fallbrook (also unbeaten) on May 3 to
decide the #1 and #2 seeds.
Massey High School
On Thursday through Sunday April 27 we hosted Massey High School from Auckland New Zealand and
our U19 boys team played them at Cerro de Las Posas Park in record breaking temperatures.
Though our boys were beaten by about 50 points, they put up a spirited performance and
scored a converted try - which were the only points scored against Massey in their six match tour
of the USA and Canada. A performance to be proud of, and lessons were learned that will help in the playoffs.
Poker Tournament Fundraiser May 10
The Gurkhas are holding a poker tournament to help raise funds for travelling to Nationals in Austin Texas
on May 10. We are also running a 50-50 raffle at Catalina May 3 - May 10 and it will be drawn at the Poker tournament
on May 10. Proceeds from this will be used for youth team playoff travelling expenses and Gurkha travelling expenses.

Players are welcome from anywhere in San Diego, as we are currently the only U19 team in San Diego (and
